Vienna is the capital of Austria. It is the primary city and one among the nine states of Austria. Vienna is the largest city in Austria with a population of 1.7 million people and is the 10th largest city in Europe in terms of population. This city also serves as the Austria’s center for economy, cultural and political issues.
Vienna is ranked the 2nd most livable city and plays host to some of the international organizations such as the United Nations. It was designated as a center for UNESCO World Heritage site in the year 2001.

The Vienna has more than 100 art museums and many other attractions. Main attractions of the city may include Hofburg, Spanish Riding School, Giant Wheel, Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna Opera House and the Schonbrunn Zoo.

Hofburg Palace

The Hofburg Palace otherwise known as the imperial palace was originally a medieval castle. It served as the home for the Austrian Hapsburg for about 600 years. The first fortifications were done in the 13th century by the King Ottakar. The palace now houses an ancient church, The National Library, 22 museums and the Spanish Riding School. This is one of the most visited places in Vienna.

Spanish Riding School

The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the oldest riding school in the world and is also the last riding school in the world which was founded in the year 1572. Here the classical dressage in purest form is still practiced. It is located in the Hofburg Palace. Here the horse performances will take place between February and June and in the months of September and December. The demands for the tickets are very high so, book your tickets well in advance.

Giant Wheel

The Giant Wheel in Vienna is one of the most recognizable attractions of the place. It is located in the Prater, which is a large wooden park and playground. It was built by an English engineer in 1897 and is the only standing wheel of its kind. The wheel offers some of the spectacular views of the city.

Vienna Opera

The Vienna Opera house was built from 1861 to 1869. It was destroyed in 1945 and was rebuilt in the year 1955 and now it hosts some 100 ballets everyday all around the year except in the months of July and August. The seating tickets are of high demand so book the tickets as early as possible.

Schonbrunn Zoo

Schonbrunn Zoo in Vienna is the only baroque zoo in the world. It was built in the year 1760 and is situated in the south – eastern part of Habsburg’s summer house. This is a good place to gain knowledge about many animals and especially the endangered species.
