Three Compelling Reasons to Keep Your Printer Manual
There are many reasons that you may want to keep that manual that comes with most every product you buy nowadays. Every product manual should give you three important pieces of information.
The first is how to set up, assemble, or start up the product in question and use it. The second would involve the regular maintenance that would be required to keep the product in good health. The third is how to troubleshoot the common errors that do occur.
The directions for different printers would tell you the individual nuances and functions for your particular printer. You would think that one manual might be able to serve several types of printer, but with the range of personal and professional printers that are available today there is definitely a necessity for individual manuals.
Getting Started
The first steps with your printer will usually involve connecting it to a wall plug or other power supply that is compatible with the printer in question. Several printers will use the USB port or a serial cable to connect to the computer. The manual will instruct you as to which type of connection is utilized by your printer. Next, the printer driver will need to be installed. This is the software that tells your computer how to manage your particular printer’s functions. This driver software should be included inside of the packaging with the printer. The manual will give you specific information as to how to go about performing the installation.
Routine Maintenance
Most printers today require little more maintenance than refilling the paper and replacing the ink cartridge when it becomes empty. Your printer manual may offer you other tips for your printer’s maintenance. This will include the type and model number of the cartridge that you should use to refill the machine, how often you should perform alignments, and how often you should use the automatic spray head cleaning feature. Others that use toner may instruct you on how to replace their cartridge, as well as how to clean away toner residue and buildup within the system.
Common Errors and Complications
You will likely find that there is a section in the back that is labeled “troubleshooting.” This would give you information on the causes and remedies for most of the more common errors and complications. The most common printer issues are often quite simple and routine oversights. You may have accidentally accessed a feature that you were not aware of, or even forgot to plug it in.
Sometimes the issue is larger than just a troubleshooting guide. You will likely be able to find contact information for product and software support in the guide as well. Normally it will be in the back cover, and they will have people that you can talk to in order to resolve your issue. In more serious situations they will be able to refer you to a service station in your area.
