One cannot overstate the benefits of the computer and the internet to users. They have the ability to change settings which slows down CPU response, disrupts internet connections and causes installed programs to malfunction.
Spyware cannot automatically be considered illegal unless utilized in illegal acts. Service providers should assess the needs of users and employ spyware technology. But the technology is often also used by hackers engaged in the gathering of information for objectionable purposes. The Federal Trade Commission estimates 27.3 millions Americans have been victimized by identity theft with financial loss of $5 billion to individuals and $48 billion to businesses and financial institutions.
All these inconvenience can be avoided by observing a few cautionary tips in the use of the internet. Be wary of e-mails coming from unknown people. People have been known to use e-mails for spreading spy wares and anti-viruses. Some applications carry with them spyware to boost information gathering about potential customers. Although it cannot be ascertained which applications contain spyware at first glance, when installing, try to be more observant. There are programs that require installation of other downloads supposedly to make the program work. They may be potential carriers of spyware
