UFC and Mixed Martial Art
The Raw Edge of Excellence and Power
Mixed martial arts or MMA is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and styles to be used in professional competitions of brute strength and variegated styles. The rules of mixed martial arts allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, and other known techniques, while standing or on the ground with the opponent.
The modern and professional mixed martial arts-modeled competitions first emerged in 1993 alongside the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Initially the matches were held to determine the most effective martial art techniques for real unarmed combat situations. Often the competitors of the various martial arts were pitted against each other with few rules or even concern for the combatants’ safety. In the following decades, MMA promoters and associations gradually adopted several other rules that aimed in increasing the safety of the lives of the combatant competitors.
This step also allowed modern mixed martial arts to be accepted in mainstream culture and viewing. Following the adaptation of these said rules and measures in professional mixed martial arts, the now pay-per-view competitions have gained acceptance and increased popularity that now rival other professional fighting sports, including professional boxing and professional wrestling, including WWE.
Popular fighters from the UFC include Houston “The Assassin” Alexander who stands at six feet, whose main strengths is punching power and over-all strength.
